The Nola Chronicles - Chapter One

One of my friends from Institute began a video blog to record her first year of teaching, and I recognized that, though I would love to keep writing in The Apple Tree, I have very little time to do so; thus, a vlog would be the best alternative route. In the future, I'll try to embed videos directly into The Apple Tree, but this time, something nonsensical occurred in the formatting, so it's hosted by Youtube. Here's the link:

Much love,

A.

  1. Hey Avalon,

Thanks for sharing. That's definitely an interesting and unique experience you're having. I don't know if we talked about this, but I've worked at an after-school program in West Philly for the last 3 years, so I can definitely relate in some ways. I know how it feels when the students are disruptive and don't care about studying. I also try to empathize with them, knowing that they struggle to learn and be motivated when their life outside of school is falling apart and that most of their parents couldn't care less about education. It's sad. But you're right in persevering despite everything. It may not seem like it yet, but you've already made a huge and lasting difference on those kids' lives.

  2. (p.s. if you check out my blog, you'll see I've posted only 1 thing. It's about my first day of tutoring in the fall of '08- you should read it if you get a chance. But don't make the same mistake I did and stop blogging altogether. I wish I'd continued)
